POC - Holographic information as a tool

Holographic reality

Create and use Microsoft HoloLens as a work tool for Boliden, both for the permanent staff and third-party suppliers of products and service personnel working in tunnels and workspaces. Microsoft HoloLens is the first self-contained holographic computer that enables engagement with digital content and interaction with holograms in the surrounding environment.

This was an exciting and innovative project that included the development of an entire concept to integrate Microsoft HoloLens as a natural work tool and describe its practical functions.

To clarify the concept and create a visual representation, a storyboard was also developed in the form of pencil sketches. These pencil sketches were used to easily explain the concept in detail and convey a visual experience to the viewer.

How can you effectively create clear and safe guidance that is visible in a completely dark tunnel, and where the path to the nearest safety bunker or exit is always clear?

By using gamification as a fundamental strategy, we develop a clear guidance consisting of a blue line with integrated arrows pointing in the right direction. On the wall, floor visuals will light up and indicate the nearest route to the safety bunker or emergency exit.

To ensure that the information is clear and useful, there will also be clear indications on the dashboard to guide you to your final destination.

Wifi positioning

In addition to creating an incredibly cool and fun solution with HoloLens, there were some question marks about how positioning on the device could be tracked. In normal cases, you can use GPS positioning to locate a person/unit, but in this case, this does not work as you are both underground but also on several floors.

By using the existing Wifi positioning system and the wireless network in the mines, it is possible to find out which plane each unit is on in real time. In this way, you can visualize the right information regardless of which floor you are on.

Status indication

How are the mine's machines such as water pumps? See current information about each unit directly as a hologram above/on each unit in the form of an infographic. From there, you can "click" on each part you wish to highlight and read about how they are doing, when they need to be serviced, etc.

Visual live communication

Minimize operational interruptions through the digitization of personnel and the adoption of more flexible work practices. With HoloLens technology, team members can swiftly address intricate tasks and collaborate seamlessly, regardless of geographical location. Establish video connections to engage in direct and efficient discussions with your colleagues.

Deep dive into blueprints

When machines need service or repairs of some kind, you can easily get a blueprint of each machine and "pull" the parts apart so you can see detailed information about where the part is located that needs service/replacement but also how to dismantle something. You can easily "point" to a part and get more information about instructions. .you can also grab the blueprint and spin it around so you can see it from all angles.
